Amulet of the Frog Cult

A larp prop (/shiny thing) made as a present for a frog cultist (who also happens to play one). The original plan was just fimo and gold leaf, then I thought I'd add some tranbslucent blue fimo to make gems for the eyes. As I was doing that ~I remembered I had translucent green as well. The end result is less gem and more glistening slightly translucent...thing. Which seems appropriate for a mysterious item of eldritch power.

The King in Yellow

 This gilded statuette appeared in an auction in Paris, 1924 with unknown provenance. Since then it has passed between collections. The gold leaf is worn and partially corroded in places, indicating a low purity, but the black, clay-like substance beneath defies analyses. Of the owners of the item, many went on to become noted artists. Several have claimed the figure, and the unusual symbol on its mask served as inspiration in their work. A number of owners have also met untimely ends, often a result of self destructive qualities or apparent mental illness, leading to rumours that the object is cursed, however this does not appear to be statistically significant

  

So I got some gold and silver leaf a while back and figured I'd try some of it out, whilst also attempting a larger fimo project than the small things I'd done before. Getting the leaf into the various crevices was ridiculously difficult but fortunately helps make it look old and worn (especially with a black wash). Due to distractions there ended up being a week or so between the most of the leaf and the final touches, so in a couple of places there's a notable colour change between the older and newer gold - some bits even have a sort of mottled bronze effect.

I started with a tin foil core, and used a bit of florists wire to form the structure for the wings, then built up with fimo for the main body and added details for the cowl, tattered robe, tentacles, and coiled yellow sign on the face. Do wish I'd made the hood a lot thinner though, and possibl added more details to the wings.

The project was originally inspired by this (far superior one).

Jade Cthulhu Idol

Back again, various other things to show as soon as I get round to it. Here, however is my first attempt at an actual fimo sculpture, which worked out fairly well in my opinion.

It's a tin foil core, covered in a thin layer if emerald, followed by a thin layer of translucent green - the two layers were probably unnecessary but I didn't know how transparent that would be. Then I added the tentacles and tried to blend them in. The wings I was puzzled by how to do well before I settled on them being pulled in tight, though perhaps I should have added a little more thickness for the wing membranes.

After it was baked I added a black wash which dramatically improved it.

It's far from perfect, and there's a couple of annoying fingerprints on it, but I'm pretty happy with it. Works better as a static prop in my opinion as its so lightweight it instantly wrecks immersion when you pick it up. 

The Obelisk of Yog-Sothoth

Now this piece I like.  Inspired by a combination of this piece by Jason McKittrick ( http://jasonmckittrick.deviantart.com/art/The-Key-of-Yog-Sothoth-280615915 ) and an Obelisk decoration I have at home that was grey stone with white etched hieroglyphs (and coincidentally has shattered in a similar way though I'd forgotten that at the time). The Obelisk point is made from air drying clay painted in layers of black and and grey which I carved into with a scalpel.  I then spent a surprisingly long time filling those etchings with night glow fimo.  In person the glow is nicely visible with relatively little direct illumination, though my camera only picked it up properly if I'd held a lamp half an inch away then quickly took a photo. 

Most of the symbols are fairly abstract but I tried to include eyes and the string of glowing orbs look.

Elder Sign Pendant

I still had a bit of the overmixed fimo left over so I figured I'd make this little thing.  It's Carter's (I think) combined version of the sign

Jade Tablets of the Elder Things

A bit of gold and baking has helped make this Not suck entirely compared to what I expected but as said before the overmixed fimo has made it rather bland (and I need to sand off a couple of fingerprints).

Since I like the idea behind this one I'll probably redo it at some point t and see if I can make it better but for the first time using fimo(which is surprisingly plasticy) I'm not TOO disappointed. 

Faux jade...Or not

So the intent behind this was to make a faux jade tablet book - I figured I'd try mixing translucent green and leaf green (as well as a little night  glow).  Unfortunately, since it's my first time working with fimo, I over mixed it and instead have a perfectly uniform plasticy green.  It looked a little better after baking and giving it a gold wash to bring out the inscription, though unfortunately it's also highlighted a couple of fingerprints I hadn't sanded as much as I thought I had.  I should I'll have more of the mixed stuff so I may finish the second half in it anyway just so they match, but hopefully next time I can get it to work better.
